Whenever I purchase software, I check the UI and usability. I don’t like the cluttered interface that requires multiple clicks to reach frequently used elements or pages.

Once you log in, you will see a quick overview of your Activity Snapshot and ConvertBoxes.
Activity Snapshot displays key statistics such as views, leads, and conversions for the selected timeframe.
You can quickly create new groups and forms by clicking the “+ Group” and “+ New ConvertBox” buttons.
Create as many ConvertBox groups as you like without worrying about overcrowding. Instead, you can simply drag unneeded or rarely used ConvertBox groups to the bottom of the list.
2. Beginner-Friendly Opt-in Form Creation
Besides having a minimal dashboard, ConvertBox offers an extremely easy-to-use interface for creating groups and opt-in forms.
You’ll love the ease of creating ConvertBoxes and enjoy the process.
Create ConvertBox Groups
If you want to create a new ConvertBox group, click the “+ Group” button on the dashboard, name it something memorable, and click “Save.”
It’s that simple! Your newly created group will now appear under “Your ConvertBoxes” on the main screen.
Create New ConvertBoxes
If you want to create a ConvertBox widget, click “+ New ConvertBox,” give it a name, and pick a ConvertBox group from the dropdown list. Additionally, you can create a new group directly by clicking the “+ Create new group” button.
Once you have created the ConvertBox and chosen a preferred group, press the “Select ConvertBox type” button to move to the next step.
3. Beautiful Pre-made ConvertBox Templates
You must select the type of ConvertBox you want before you can customize the appearance and behavior of your form. For example, you can create overlay pop-ups or embeddable widgets.
The first type of ConvertBox is an Overlay that displays as a pop-up over your page content.

Since the specified locations for Small embedded ConvertBoxes are prone to banner blindness, make your design eye-catching for maximum form visibility.
Although ConvertBox has some premade designs, I strongly recommend customizing them to match your brand.
4. Powerful Customization Options
You can customize your opt-in forms using ConvertBox’s visual drag-and-drop editor.
It’s divided into two sections.
On the left, you’ll see the options panel with all the design elements you can add and the interface for adding multiple steps.
On the right, you’ll see a live preview of your ConvertBox. You can add/remove different design elements from your editor and customize them to match your brand.
However, you should focus on conversion-optimizing your forms besides making them visually appealing.
Here’s a quick list of ConvertBox elements:
User Profile
It allows you to connect with your readers and establish trust. Add your real name and company profile to make it look more authentic.
Teaser Functionality
One of the coolest features of ConvertBox is a “teaser” box. You can do this to entice visitors to interact with your ConvertBox. It’s available on all ConvertBox types except embedded, and you can customize the look to make it stand out. You’ll see a Teaser toggle in the sidebar when you open ConvertBox’s visual editor. Please turn it on and explore various customization options!
Text
You can use this element to describe your opt-in offer. Since you only have a few seconds to grab the visitor’s attention, make sure your message is short and sweet.
In addition to changing fonts, sizes, styles, and alignments, you can add custom hyperlinks to selected text. The best part is adding dynamic custom fields to your opt-in forms.
For example, if you run a marketing campaign for a few days each month, you can add the current month as a custom field, i.e., {{month}}, instead of the month’s name.
Button
Undoubtedly, the button is one of the most crucial elements of an opt-in form. ConvertBox offers plenty of button customization options. For most users, the available options are more than enough, but customization isn’t as extensive as it could be.
I recommend you pick a button color that contrasts your form’s background color and size large enough to be clicked on mobile devices.
ConvertBox has advanced button settings to fine-tune marketing funnels even further.
Video
In case a text-based description isn’t enough to convey your offer’s key points, use a video instead.
Currently, you can’t upload videos directly to ConverterBox. So upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and get an embed code to add it to ConvertBox.
Image
Having the right image improves opt-in conversions. Ensure your images highlight the benefits to your audience and match your marketing message.
Sadly, ConvertBox doesn’t offer advanced image customization. For example, adding image overlays or custom links.
Form
Adding a form is the most effective way to streamline the opt-in process and convert more visitors.
For example, integrated forms can collect prospects’ contact information, such as their name, email, and phone number. Although getting all the details about a lead would be great for marketing, avoid adding unnecessary fields to forms, as they might hurt conversion rates.
Timer
ConvertBox’s countdown timer will help you generate more sign-ups or direct sales by creating a sense of urgency in your visitors.
A timer can be set for a specific duration or as “evergreen” so that it remains active at all times. For example, you can create a countdown timer for the Black Friday sale that expires on Cyber Monday at midnight, when most deals end.
HTML
Advanced users can embed custom code into their ConvertBox using the HTML element.
You may hide your HTML code on mobile devices via a quick toggle.
This feature is handy if you want to embed external opt-in forms from email marketing software that are not included in the ConvertBox integration list.
Divider
A divider separates elements visually. Some users may find your form’s content more accessible/easier to read this way.
Progress Bar
The progress bar encourages users to complete the form if it involves multiple steps.
You can customize the bar in several ways, including size, shape, initial percentage value, color, and more.
How to Add Design Elements to the ConvertBox Canvas
Add elements to your ConvertBox by dragging them where you want. Except for HTML, every element has several customization options.
For demonstration purposes, let’s add a Text element to ConvertBox.
After adding the Text element, click it to see all the available customization options.
Take a look at the live preview to see how each feature works.
How to Change the ConvertBox Type
You can change the ConvertBox type at the bottom of the element panel.
For example, suppose you’ve created the Center Modal and want to switch to the Callout Modal or Full Page; you can easily do that.
However, you can’t switch from overlays to embedded forms and vice versa.
5. ConvertBox Mobile Editing
You can also customize the appearance of your ConvertBoxes for mobile devices.
Click on the “Mobile” option in the top bar to switch to mobile editing.
However, you can only control elements’ scaling and visibility, not anything else.
For example, you can only change the font size, line height, and vertical scaling (top/bottom margins) of the Text element in mobile editing mode.
Since mobile devices account for a larger percentage of web browsing nowadays, adjusting element sizes or hiding them is necessary for a smooth mobile experience.
I’m disappointed with ConvertBox’s mobile editing mode, and there’s certainly room for improvement.
6. Multi-step Forms
If you want to create a multi-step opt-in experience with your Convertbox forms, click “Steps” on the left-hand side and then “Start creating steps.”
You will see a list of the current workflow steps in the left panel.
Initially, you will only see the first step, which refers to the form you are editing. Then, depending on your goals, you can decide what the next step(s) should be.
For example, collecting contact info or segmenting users based on their preferences.
For each step, click “Add a new step” and name it, such as opt-in, segment A, or segment B.
ConvertBox will provide you with a blank canvas once a new step has been created.
Now, you can add different design elements to match the first step in the workflow. Select the “Elements” tab again to customize your newly added ConvertBox form steps.
Usually, at least one action element, such as a button or a form, is present during the subsequent steps. That’s why be sure to edit the button or form settings so your multi-step form functions seamlessly and produces the desired results.
The following button settings are available for multi-step forms.
- Go to the next step
- Jump to step
- Redirect to URL
- Close the ConvertBox
- Open another ConvertBox
Additionally, here are some advanced settings you may want to explore:
- Open redirect URL in a new tab
- Pass form fields as parameters on redirect URL
- Fire a tracking script
- Apply a custom field name and value
- Apply a quiz score value
- Stop showing this ConvertBox to the visitor
The Form element in multi-step ConvertBoxes has similar settings, along with the ability to insert additional form fields and conditional actions. However, be sure to set up your integrations before making multi-step forms.
IMPORTANT: Modifying the type of a ConvertBox in a multi-step form will change the type of all steps connected to it.
Adding more ConvertBox types to one workflow would’ve been a great idea. Unfortunately, with the current ConvertBox version, this is not possible.
For example, you could add a slide-in (callout modal) as the first step to attract visitors and a full page overlay as the opt-in step to avoid distractions if this feature was available.
7. Multiple Display Options
With ConvertBox, you’re in control of when, where, and how often your form appears.
You can configure all those parameters by navigating to the “Display” menu.
Triggers
The trigger specifies when a particular ConvertBox will appear. Below are the five types of triggers ConvertBox supports:
- Time on page: The ConvertBox appears when a visitor stays on a page longer than a set amount of time.
- Scrolling the page: The ConvertBox appears when a visitor scrolls more than a certain percentage.
- Period of no activity: The ConvertBox appears when someone has been inactive on the page for more than a specified time.
- Page abandonment: The ConvertBox appears when a visitor attempts to leave. This trigger works great on desktop devices.
- Clicking a link on the page: As the title suggests, clicking a link triggers a ConvertBox. Please remember, when the ConvertBox is activated with a link click, any display settings in Frequency and any rules in Targeting won’t apply.
Suppose you want to show a ConvertBox form to a prospective visitor. Trigger it only after the visitor has stayed on your page for 30 seconds or scrolls through more than 50% of the page content.
Considering that the visitor has shown some interest in your content, a relevant offer might convert him.
You can always experiment with different variables to see if your results improve.
Frequency
This option determines how often you want to show a particular ConvertBox form to a visitor per session and cumulatively.
You can also suppress the display frequency when someone closes the ConvertBox and choose what else should happen.
Location
ConvertBox locations enable you to display your marketing messages on the entire website or specific pages.
Choose one of the following display rules when you want to show your ConvertBoxes at specific locations.
- This exact URL
- URLs starting with
- URLs containing
- WordPress category
- WordPress tag
Similarly, you can use the display rules above to prevent ConvertBoxes from appearing on specific pages or areas of your website.
Below is a quick tutorial on how to set ConvertBox display rules.
Embedded ConvertBoxes offer a unique display feature called “Embed areas.” Each area has a dynamic embed code enabling you to display multiple ConvertBoxes in the same area based on targeting preferences.
Besides embed areas, you can also specify the pages where you want your ConvertBox to appear or hide.
To begin, click ‘Edit’ under Display Location settings.
The location settings interface will appear.
You can add or exclude your form from certain pages using two tabs: Include and Exclude.
Suppose you want to show your ConvertBox on a particular page. Specify the exact URL where you want it to appear by clicking the “+ Add display rule” button.
Please note that when no display rules are set under the Include tab, your ConvertBox appears on the entire site by default.
Similarly, you can hide ConvertBoxes on certain pages.
Quickly switch to the “Exclude” tab and press the “+ Add display rule” option.
Choose a display rule from the dropdown list, enter the URL you want to exclude in the input field on the right side, and click “Done.”
If you need to include or exclude multiple pages, you can do that. Click the “+ Add page rule” button and repeat the process.
8. Extensive Targeting Options
We’ve already covered ConvertBox display options. Now let’s talk about targeting.
When you visit the “Targeting” tab, you can choose whether you want your ConvertBox messaging to appear to everyone or only to specific users.
The default targeting setting is “Show to all visitors.” With the “Target specific visitors,” you can control who sees your form by setting rules.
Once you have selected the “Target specific visitors” option, click on the “+ Add conditional rule” button to explore ConvertBox’s conditional rules (targeting preferences).
Convertbox offers the following conditional rules.
- Number of page views is MORE than
- Number of page views is LESS than
- Number of page views is EXACTLY
- Number of sessions is MORE than
- Number of sessions is LESS than
- Number of sessions is EXACTLY
- Device type is desktop
- Device type is mobile
- Has visited page
- Has NOT visited page
- Has visited with URL parameter
- Has NOT visited with URL parameter
- Referring source contains
- Referring source does NOT contain
- Location includes
- Location does NOT include
- Has seen ConvertBox
- Has NOT seen ConvertBox
- Is logged into WordPress
In the same way as display rules, you can also use as many conditional rules as you need when configuring your form’s targeting.
Select “+ AND if “and “+OR if” under the conditional rules settings to add more targeting options.
9. ConvertBox Scheduling
Once you have designed a ConvertBox, and configured the Display and Targeting rules, it’s time to launch it.
Navigate to the “Launch” tab. The first two options, “ConvertBox name” and “Status,” are self-explanatory.
ConvertBox lets you pick a start and end date/time when activating it.
This feature is helpful for ConvertBoxes that run for a limited time. E.g., Anniversary/Birthday sales, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, Halloween offers, Festive Sales, and Independence Day sales.
10. A/B Testing
The A/B test lets you test two or more different versions of ConvertBox simultaneously.
This way, you can compare the performance of every variation and find the one that works best.
ConvertBox has A/B testing functionality built in. Simply click “+ Create A/B test” on the editor screen and then “+ Create new variation,” and you’re ready to go.
When you want to test more variations, hover over an existing ConvertBox variation and click the “Clone” icon. Unfortunately, you can only have four variations for any ConvertBox.
You can customize new variations of your form the same as the original once they’re created. From the variations list, you can edit any version you want.
Keeping track of changes has never been easier with ConvertBox’s “Notes” feature.
Write down all the details about your A/B test in the “Notes” section for future reference.
Additionally, you can choose between two split test types by clicking “Settings.”
Here’s a brief explanation of each:
- Cookied split test: If this option is selected, the form will be displayed randomly. However, visitors will see the same form variation each time. E.g., Variation A.
- Regular split test: The regular split test also displays a random variation of your form, but visitors may see more than one variation. E.g., Variation A or Variation B
Despite A/B testing being a critical part of conversion optimization, I recommend you only change one or two elements at once and test the form for two weeks before interpreting any results.
When conducting A/B testing, be sure to test the following elements.
- Headline
- Description
- Images (lead magnet illustration/background image)
- Colors (for fonts, buttons, and other design elements)
- Typography
- Layouts
- Form Fields

Advanced reporting features are undoubtedly beneficial; however, ConvertBox provides only a few campaign statistics.
On the main dashboard, select a ConvertBox group and find the form you want to view stats for. Then, click the “Stats” option.
Next, choose the timeframe, ConvertBox group, and form(s); as a result, all details will pop up.
In addition to the graphical view, you can see the Views, Interactions, and Leads in the statistical form.

You can create an unlimited number of forms with a limit of 250,000 views per month across all your ConvertBoxes. Furthermore, the plan includes all premium features at no extra cost.
